A SIMPLE CENTRIPETE
for the treament of drinking water

An empty 1.5 liters plastic soda bottle turned up-side-down is used. The brass or copper inlet pipe and the plastic tubing attached to it at the bottom have a dia of 10 mm. Make sure that you bore the inlet hole in the strengthened part of the bottom and that the bore hole is turned to the right as much as possible in order to get a tangential inlet of the water.
For the outlet bore a 10 mm hole in the screw cap and have a short (4-5) cm brass or copper pipe fit into it. Use glue on both sides of the cap. Put on a few centimeters of plastic tubing.
At the centre of the bottom bore a small hole for a screw or hook so you can hang the contraption from a suitable support. Dont forget to bore a ca 2mm hole at the bottom in order to let the air out when you start filling the centripete.

Hang the centripete at a suitable place, attach the inlet tubing to the tap, screw on the cap, turn on the water and you will soon se a beautiful vortex. Adjust the level to stay just under the inlet. Be careful, it is easy to get wet.
By attaching plastic tubings of different diameter to the outlet you can experiment with different flows and see how the vortex changes in shape. If you want to experiment with separation bore an extra hole in the bottle some 7-10 cm from the outlet (you have to strengthen the wall of the bottle by an extra glued on piece of plastic material from an another bottle to give you the right stiffness).
The photos show an overview and a detail of the inlet arrangement.
